Opaque projector Lenses with

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:05 am

The opaque projector, epidioscope, epidiascope or episcope is a predecessor to the overhead projector. It displays opaque materials by shining a bright lamp, often limelight, onto the object from above. A system of mirrors, prisms and/or imaging lenses is used to focus an image of the material onto a viewing screen. Because they must project the reflected light, opaque projectors require brighter bulbs and larger lenses than overhead projectors. Care must be taken that the materials are not damaged by the heat generated by the light source. Opaque projectors are not as common as the modern “overhead”.

Opaque projectors are typically used to project images of book pages, drawings, mineral specimens, leaves, etc. They have been produced and marketed as artists’ enlargement tools to allow images to be transferred to surfaces such as prepared canvas, or for lectures and discourses. In the early and middle parts of the 20th century, low-cost opaque projectors were produced and marketed as toys for children.

In educational settings, the specific role of the opaque projector has been superseded by the presenter, a lighted table with a fixed video camera above it. The image from the camera is displayed using a separate projector. The desktop presenter unit is sometimes called an opaque projector.

The above refers to the ‘epi’ part of the epidiascope. The epidiascope is a combined version of the episcope. The ‘dia’ part providing also the ability to project glass slides approx 100mm x100mm, using a slide carrier on the front of the box integral with the projector lenses.

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:50 am

Curve-fitting compaction is data compaction accomplished by replacing data to be stored or transmitted with an analytical expression.

Examples of curve-fitting compaction consisting of discretization and then interpolation are:

  1. Breaking of a continuous curve into a series of straight line segments and specifying the slope, intercept, and range for each segment
  2. Using a mathematical expression, such as a polynomial or a trigonometric function, and a single point on the corresponding curve instead of storing or transmitting the entire graphic curve or a series of points on it.

Ampersand curve curve radius abbreviated

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:35 am

In mathematics, the ampersand curve is a quartic plane curve given by the equation:

<math>\ (y^2-x^2)(x-1)(2x-3)=4(x^2+y^2-2x)^2.</math>

It is an algebraic curve of genus zero, with three ordinary double points, all in the real plane. By the Plücker formulas, the dual curve has degree six, with four double points in the real part of the plane corresponding to double tangents of the ampersand curve.

The dual curve has the formula

<math>19(16x^2-5y^2)(3x^2-19y^2)^2-48048x^5+146272x^4-364472y^2x^3+547456x^3

Offer curve curve may

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:10 pm

In economics, and particularly in the theory of international trade an offer curve shows the quantity of one type of product that an agent will export (”offer”) for each quantity of another type of product that it imports. The offer curve was first derived by English economists Edgeworth and Marshall to help explain international trade.

Offer Curve Described

The Offer Curve is derived from the country’s PPF. We describe a Country named K which enjoys both goods Y and X. It is slightly better at producing good X, but wants to consume both goods. It wants to consume at point C or higher (above the PPF). Country K starts in Autarky at point C. At point C, country K can produce (and consume) 3 Y for 5 X. As trade begins with another country, and country K begins to specialize in producing good X. When it produces at point B, it can trade with the other country and consume at point S. We now look at our Offer curve and draw a ray at the level 5 Y for 7 X. When full specialization occurs, K then produces at point A, trades and then consumes at point T. The price has reduced to 1 Y for 1 X, and the economy is now at equilibrium

Asperity contact

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:05 am

Asperity is defined as unevenness of surface, roughness, ruggedness (OED). Flat surfaces, even those polished to a mirror finish, are not truly flat on an atomic scale. They are rough, with sharp, rough or rugged outgrowth, termed asperities.

When two macroscopically flat surfaces come into contact, initially they only touch at a few of these asperity points. These cover only a very small portion of the surface area. Friction and wear originate at these points and thus understanding their behavior is important when studying materials in contact. When the surfaces are subjected to a compressive load, the asperities plastically deform, increasing the contact area between the two surfaces until the contact area is sufficient to support the load.

The Archard equation is a simplified model of asperity deformation when materials in contact are subject to a force.

Australian Army enlisted rank insignia abbreviated BCR

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:40 am

Like the British Army, the Australian Army does not use the term ‘enlisted’ to describe its non-commissioned ranks. Instead, personnel who are not Commissioned Officers are referred to as Other Ranks. These are soldiers, Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and Warrant Officers (WOs). Warrant Officers are appointed by a warrant which is signed by the Chief of the Army. The insignia for non-commissioned ranks are identical to the British Army up to the rank of Warrant Officer Class Two. WO1s in the Australian Army wear the Australian Coat of Arms.

The ranks are, from highest to lowest:

Contents

Warrant Officer Appointments

These appointments are held by the senior Warrant Officers in the Australian Army. These are appointments, not ranks.

  • Regimental Sergeant Major of the Army (Abbreviated: RSM-A) (The RSM-A holds the rank of Warrant Officer (WO))
  • Academy Sergeant Major (Abbreviated: ASM) (One WO1 is appointed every 3 to 4 years to serve at the Australian Defence Force Academy as the ASM, the position is rotational with the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force)

Warrant Officer Ranks

  • Warrant Officer (Abbreviated: WO) - E9 - the rank held by the Regimental Sergeant Major of the Army
  • Warrant Officer Class One (Abbreviated: WO1) - E9
  • Warrant Officer Class Two (Abbreviated: WO2) - E8

Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Ranks

  • Staff Sergeant (Abbreviated: SSGT) - E7
  • Sergeant (Abbreviated: SGT) - E6

Junior Non-Commissioned Officer Ranks

  • Corporal or Bombardier (Abbreviated: CPL or BDR) - E5
  • Lance Corporal or Lance Bombardier (Abbreviated: LCPL or LBDR) - E4

Private Soldier Ranks

  • Private Proficient (Abbreviated: PTE(P)). Also used within the Private equivalent ranks - E3
  • Private (Abbreviated: PTE): This title is used by members of the following Corps: RACT, RAAOC, RAAPC, RAINF, RAAMC, RAADC, AustInt, Psych and AACC - E2

Alternate rank titles are used for other Corps. However, these members hold the same rank as a PTE (Private equivalent) - E2

  • Musician (Abbreviated: MUSN): AABC
  • Signalman (Abbreviated: SIG): RASigs
  • Gunner (Abbreviated: GNR): RAA
  • Trooper (Abbreviated: TPR): RAAC, AAAvn, SASR
  • Sapper (Abbreviated: SPR): RAE
  • Craftsman (Abbreviated: CFN): RAEME
  • Private (pre-completion of Initial Employment Training) - E1
  • Recruit (Abbreviated: REC /PTE(R)): Members who are undergoing basic training - E0

Collectively Junior Non-Commissioned Officers and Private soldiers (or equivalent) are referred to as Other Ranks (Abbreviated: ORs).

Private (and equivalent) soldiers in the Australian Army are still commonly referred to as ‘diggers’.

Notes:

  • The senior Warrant Officer in the Australian Army holds the rank of ‘Warrant Officer’ (WO) and the appointment of Regimental Sergeant Major of the Army (RSM-A)
  • The rank of Staff Sergeant is being phased out of the Australian Army.
  • Private Proficient is a ‘certification’ rather than a rank. Private Proficient simply means a Private who has completed basic training, Initial Employment Training and is proficient in his/her trade - generally spending twelve months “on the job” first. A PTE(P) soldier does not ‘outrank’ a PTE soldier for discipline purposes. However, a PTE(P) soldier (also known as a senior soldier/senior digger) may be in charge of tasking and training a junior soldier(s) within their section. For pay purposes, a PTE(P) soldier is equivalent to an Able Seaman in the Royal Australian Navy and a Leading Aircraftsman/Leading Aircraftswoman in the Royal Australian Air Force.
  • A female soldier’s title is Signalman/Craftsman, not Signalwoman/Craftswoman.
  • Referred to as a Sig, ie: Sig Smith.
  • A Private prior to completion of Initial Employment Training (IET) (but post-recruit training) is no different in rank to a Private post-IET, however they are on a lower pay grade and are deemed to be an E1 rather than an E2 when equating rank with other nations’ armed forces.

Leland Brewsaugh detailed

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:35 pm

Leland Brewsaugh (1935-2003) was a prolific sculptor, designer, and painter.
His artwork can be found at http://brewsaughgallery.com/

He was a student of nature had a lifelong career painting birds and the landscapes of Florida and North Carolina. He was most known for his detailed life size carving birds in the swamps and marshes southeast.

Brewsaugh attended University of Florida in the 1950s, but wanted something more artistic. He landed at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, where he obtained the foundation for what would be a lifelong love and career in art.

After college, he spent years as a freelance illustrator. During a stint as a contractor with a military agency he learned how to use blueprints to make detailed models, a skill critical for the lifelike sculptures he would create throughout the rest of his life.

He then moved into the role of architect. He designed countless homes and business throughout Jacksonville where he lived with his wife and children.

As a hobbyist, Brewsaugh continued to experiment with painting, model making and creating detailed birds in basswood. Eventually, with encouragement from his wife, Elizabeth a potter, he decided to pursue his art full time.

Together, Elizabeth and Leland set out on the art show circuit winning awards and often selling out their entire inventories before the show closed. The success provided a large customer base then Brewsaugh was able to secure a space with a New York printer and his detailed bird prints were sold on a national scale. His popularity grew and soon dealers and private collectors took all of Brewsaugh’s inventory before it was even created. At one point, he was sold out for two years.

Brewsaugh’s career evolved and he was allowed the freedom to explore other mediums. He began painting outside his usual detailed bird paintings and completed a series of “working men.” He focused on landscapes of Florida and North Carolina. Brewsaugh was a true designer at heart, he experimented in stained glass, Ikebana flower arranging, other forms of abstract wood sculpture and an autobiographical series of sculptures based on the wooden mannequin used to teach art students how to draw.

Brewsaugh’s elaborate carvings can be found in private collections across the world including the White House. He has had over 50 prints on the market. He was an accomplished artist with a sense for design, color, light and space.

Neon burning process oxygen

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:35 pm

The neon burning process is a set of nuclear fusion reactions that take place in massive stars (at least 8 MSun). Neon burning requires high temperatures and densities (around 1.2×109 K and 4×109 kg/m3).

At such high temperatures photodisintegration becomes a significant effect, so some neon nuclei decompose, releasing alpha particles:

20Ne + γ → 16O + 4He

These alpha particles can be recycled to produce magnesium-24

20Ne + 4He → 24Mg + γ

Alternatively

20Ne + n → 21Ne + γ
21Ne + 4He → 24Mg + n

where the neutron consumed in the first step is regenerated in the second.

Neon burning takes place after carbon burning has consumed all carbon in the core and built up a new oxygen/neon/magnesium core. The core cools down, and gravitational pressure compresses it, increasing density and temperature up to the ignition point of neon burning.

During neon burning, oxygen and magnesium accumulate in the central core while neon is consumed. After a few years the star consumes all its neon and the core cools down again. Again, gravitational pressure takes over and compress the central core, increasing its density and temperature until the oxygen burning process can start.

Osculating curve curve may work

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:50 am

In mathematics and geometry, an osculating curve is an extension of the concept of tangent. A tangent line to a curve is the straight line that shares the location and direction of the curve, while an osculating circle to the same curve shares the location, direction, and curvature.

Two curves are said to be osculating at a particular point if they share the same osculating circle but do not cross, just as they are said to be tangent if they share the same tangent line but do not cross. The term derives from the latinate root “osculate”, to kiss, because the two curves contact one another in a more gentle way than simple tangency.
